The Client

Bring your boat and your fishing gear and come up to one of the most beautiful and peaceful communities on the Western side of Cape York. The people here catch fresh fish, crabs and oysters just metres away from their backyards on a daily basis!

The Opportunity

This position provides aid to the accountant in the administration and oversight of the Council's financial accounts. Duties include reconciliation of various accounts, preparation of internal financial reports and assisting executive and line managers in grant/project management. Along with Councils Executive, it has financial oversight responsibilities for Council projects.

To be considered for this position you will require the following skills and qualifications.

  • Highly developed excel skills as well as organisational, time management, planning and computer skills.
  • Knowledge and previous experience in the use of finance software, particularly MYOB.
  • Ability to prepare budgets and financial reports.
  • Experience in Local Government
  • Current criminal history check or willingness to obtain;
  • Must be Australian resident or hold appropriate working visa.

Desirable:

  • An appropriate Degree or Diploma in Business Management/Administration or Financial Management or progression towards completing such a qualification.
  • Awareness of contemporary trends occurring within Local Government.
  • Knowledge of legal issues affecting the provision of services.
  • Competency handling confidential information.
  • Knowledge and experience working with Indigenous people in remote locations.
