The Opportunity

The cook is to act as a right hand to Chefs. Responsible for preparing and producing food items specified requirements set by the Head chef. You must ensure the restaurant serves quality meals in an efficient and timely manner to its customers

Responsibilities

The successful applicant will be responsible to undertake the following duties;

  • Set up workstations with all needed ingredients and cooking equipment
  • Prepare ingredients to use in cooking (hoping and peeling Vegetables, cutting meat etc)
  • Ensure standards of presentation and preparation of food items and meet or exceed resort standards
  • Cook food with a variety of different methods with a wide variety of ingredients and equipment
  • Keep a sanitized and orderly environment in the kitchen
  • Ensure all good and other items are stored correctly
  • Check quality of ingredients prior to preparation
  • Monitor stock and place orders and/or notify head chef when there are shortages
  • To be aware of an understand the company policy in respect to sourcing ingredients
  • Assist head chef when required
  • Train and monitor apprentices and kitchen hand staff

Health and safety

  • Adhere to health, hygiene and safety rules and regulations at all times
  • Check and ensure the proper storage of raw and processed food items including the condition of food in the kitchen
  • Stay informed of the emergency measures in case of accident in the kitchen or resort
  • To adhere to the company food hygiene management system in place
  • To comply with company policy on personal hygiene and uniform
  • Ensure that all equipment is working safely and compliant with manufacturers guidelines for operation reporting any failures to the head chef or F&B Manager

About You

  • You must have a Certificate III and 2 years’ experience OR Certificate IV relevant to the position.
  • Experience cooking modern Australian cuisine in a busy high quality restaurant environment
  • To be successful you must be flexible, open minded and confident to take over any section of the kitchen operation at any time.
  • Demonstrated Experience to Train other kitchen staff and apprentices
  • Follow and enforce the hygiene and safety standards set by the public Health department and the restaurant
  • Understand Proper handling of food, equipment and utensils
