POSITION:

Full-time position for a Cook is available in Cairns City QLD 4870.

SKILLS:

The role requires you to hold at least a relevant AQF (or equivalent) Cert IV and 1 year of relevant fulltime work experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

As a Cook, you will prepare and cook a variety of dishes following chefs' specifications and recipes. The role involves maintaining high food safety and handling standards, setting up daily mise-en-place and ensuring food is presented attractively. You will also assist with food checks, maintain cleanliness and organisation in the kitchen and monitor food quality and safety standards. Reporting to the Chef, your role ensures quality meals are served efficiently to customers.

TASKS:

  • Adhere to proper food handling and hygiene procedures.
  • Prepare dishes according to recipes and specifications.
  • Set up and maintain daily mise-en-place for kitchen operations.
  • Present food items attractively for counters, buffets or events.
  • Receive and prepare food checks and event orders.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation of workspaces, storage areas and equipment.
  • Inspect and maintain kitchen equipment, reporting issues to the Chef.
  • Check the quality of ingredients and prevent spoilage.
  • Inspect the kitchen before service to ensure cleanliness and readiness.
  • Monitor and regulate cooking equipment temperatures.
  • Season food appropriately during cooking to enhance flavour.
  • Supervise and assist with meal service to ensure timely order delivery.
  • Collaborate effectively with kitchen staff to ensure smooth operations.
  • Train and guide kitchen staff and apprentices when needed.
  • Delegate tasks fairly and efficiently.
  • Follow sanitation and kitchen safety practices.
  • Monitor food inventory and notify the Chef of shortages or discrepancies.

ADDITIONAL ATTRIBUTES:

  • Knowledge of food-related training techniques.
  • Ability to work in a team and communicate effectively.
  • Strong understanding of raw materials, quality control, and production processes.
  • Familiarity with food preparation regulations and standards.

SALARY:

An annual salary of $60,000 - $70,000 based on experience.
