The Client

Our Client is a Cairns based Government Department that works across the North Queensland region.

The Client is looking for someone local to Cairns or a commutable distance, this role is not FIFO and it is not open to relocation as it is a temporary role.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Workplace Health and Safety Advisor to join our team in Cairns. This role is crucial in ensuring compliance with Workplace Health, Safety, and Environmental (WHS&E) standards across QBuild and contractor-delivered projects.

About the Role

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct WHS&E audits and inspections to ensure compliance for both QBuild and contractors.
• Assist with reporting and investigating incidents, including notifiable contractor incidents.
• Support the development, review, and implementation of Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), risk assessments, and WHS Management plans.
• Assist in regular WHS&E reporting for regions and business operations.
• Contribute to the delivery of health and safety programs to meet stakeholder needs.
• Some regional travel required.

About You

• Certificate IV in WHS&E or 5+ years of proven experience in a similar role.
• Strong knowledge of WHS legislation, Codes of Practice, and Australian/International Standards.
• Ability to identify industry-specific hazards, risks, and control measures.
• Proven ability to interpret and apply WHS legislation and provide clear guidance to stakeholders.
• Strong communication skills, with the capacity to liaise effectively through structured written and oral communication.
• Relationship-building skills to engage positively with employees, managers, and various stakeholders.
