POSITION

We have a full-time position of Chef in Cairns, QLD 4870.

SKILL LEVEL

The business requires the following qualifications and experience for the Chef position:

  • At least a relevant AQF Diploma (or equivalent); and
  • Have at least 2 years of relevant full-time work experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES OVERVIEW

The Chef is responsible for overseeing all aspects of kitchen operations, including menu planning, food preparation, quality control, and staff management.

The role will involve ensuring that all dishes meet high-quality standards while maintaining efficient workflows in a fast-paced environment. This includes being responsible for monitoring food safety regulations, maintaining hygiene standards, and managing supplier relationships to ensure cost-effective and high-quality ingredients.

KEY DUTIES

You will need to undertake the following duties:

  • Designing and planning diverse and innovative menus that align with customer preferences and seasonal availability.
  • Introducing new dishes while maintaining consistency in quality and presentation. Focusing on incorporating cost-effective ingredients that are locally in season.
  • Monitoring inventory levels, placing orders, and minimising waste through effective stock control.
  • Overseeing day-to-day kitchen operations, ensuring smooth workflow and efficiency.
  • Managing and supervising kitchen staff, including training, scheduling, and performance evaluation. Demonstrating and providing advice on other kitchen staff on their technique cooking procedure.
  • Delegating tasks effectively to ensure timely food preparation and service.
  • Ensuring all dishes are prepared according to standardised recipes and presentation guidelines.
  • Conducting regular quality checks on food preparation and final presentation.
  • Monitoring portion control to maintain consistency and cost efficiency.
  • Ensuring all ingredients are fresh and meet the establishment’s quality standards.
  • Enforcing strict adherence to hygiene, food safety, and occupational health and safety regulations.
  • Ensuring proper cleaning and sanitisation of all kitchen areas, equipment, and utensils. Conducting regular inspections to identify potential hazards and implementing corrective measures.
  • Keeping up to date with food safety laws and industry best practices.
  • Coordinating with front-of-house staff to ensure seamless service and address customer feedback.

SALARY

The salary offered will range from $70,000 to $80,000 per annum determined on qualification and experience.
