The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a highly skilled Legal and Compliance Advisor to join our team on a 12-month temporary basis while the incumbent is on a leave of absence. This is a pivotal role requiring strong legislative expertise and high-level policy capability.

The successful candidate will provide expert legal advice, contribute to strategic initiatives, and support operational decision-making across a range of complex legal and compliance matters. This role operates at the AO6 level and demands a proactive, analytical professional who thrives in a dynamic and collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide high-quality legal and compliance advice within the relevant legislative frameworks and in consideration of statutory and regulatory obligations impacting organisational operations.
  • Deliver both strategic and operational policy advice to executive leadership, contributing to initiatives aligned with organisational goals and long-term planning.
  • Prepare submissions and briefs for government and external stakeholders on matters relevant to the organisation’s strategic direction, ensuring clear, concise, and well-researched written documentation.
  • Undertake and lead policy development and legal research, focusing on emerging issues and opportunities to inform future policy and legislative directions.
  • Manage complex projects independently, including coordinating stakeholder consultations to identify appropriate legal and policy solutions and communicate findings effectively to senior management and key partners.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

  • A tertiary qualification in Law.
  • Extensive experience in the interpretation of legislation and the ability to conduct detailed and accurate legal research.
  • Strong skills in policy development, strategic thinking, and the preparation of high-level written materials such as briefs and reports.
  • Proven ability to work autonomously and manage complex tasks and stakeholder engagement.
  • A collaborative mindset and strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate legal and policy positions to diverse audiences.

This is an excellent opportunity to contribute your legal expertise and policy insight in a role that supports both high-level strategy and day-to-day operational outcomes.
