POSITION

We have a full-time role available for a Cafe/Restaurant Supervisor in Smithfield (Cairns), QLD 4878.

SKILLS

The role requires you hold at least a relevant AQF (or equivalent) Certificate IV and have at least one year of relevant work experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Cafe Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily cafe operations during their shift. This includes supervising staff, ensuring excellent customer service, maintaining cleanliness and hygiene and supporting smooth food and beverage service. The role is hands-on and works closely with both the team and management.

POSITION DUTIES

You will need to undertake the following duties:

  • Supervise front-of-house staff during shifts, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and to a high standard.
  • Provide hands-on support with customer service, food and beverage service, and cleaning duties.
  • Ensure all guests are greeted and served in a professional, timely, and friendly manner.
  • Monitor food and beverage presentation and quality, ensuring consistency with cafe standards.
  • Support the training and induction of new team members and assist with on-the-job coaching.
  • Assist with opening and closing procedures, including setting up and packing down the cafe.
  • Perform daily cash handling tasks, including till reconciliation, float management, and end-of-day reports.
  • Monitor and maintain cleanliness, hygiene, and safety throughout the cafe in line with health regulations.
  • Check and receive deliveries, ensuring the correct quantity and quality of stock is received.
  • Rotate and restock items in front-of-house areas, reporting low stock to management.
  • Respond to customer complaints or concerns professionally and escalate when required.
  • Assist with shift planning by identifying staffing needs based on expected customer volumes.
  • Report any equipment faults, maintenance needs, or workplace hazards to management.
  • Ensure food handling and hygiene procedures are followed by all team members during shifts.
  • Encourage a positive, team-oriented working environment and lead by example during busy periods.
  • Provide daily feedback to the cafe manager/owner on shift performance, staff issues, or customer feedback.

ADDITIONAL ATTRIBUTES

  • Ability to communicate clearly and understand the predominant language(s) of the cafe’s trading area.
  • Basic knowledge of food and beverage service standards.
  • Strong basic maths skills and ability to operate a cash register or POS system.
  • Physically capable of standing for extended periods (up to 5 hours) and performing physical tasks.
  • Ability to reach, bend, stoop, and frequently lift items up to 20 kilograms.

SALARY

$65,000 - $75,000 per annum based on experience.
