Manager Finance

We’re looking for a qualified CPA or CA to step into a key leadership role with a small, close-knit Council. You’ll be involved in everything from budgeting and reporting to mentoring a small team and driving real improvements. If you’re someone who enjoys making a genuine impact, working closely with the community, and being part of a supportive team, this could be the right fit.

Please note this is not a FIFO/ DIDO role, you'll be based in a quiet outback regional Queensland town with cheap rent, a slower pace of life, and a great sense of community.

What You’ll Bring:

• CPA or CA
• Solid financial management experience (3+ years)
• Local Government expertise, understanding of legislation, and Local Government Act is preferred
• Strong communication and leadership skills
• Broad accounting experience – hands-on with budgeting, and financial reporting

What your day-to-day will look like:

• Lead the preparation and management of budgets, financial statements, and reports to ensure ongoing financial sustainability
• Oversee day-to-day financial operations, including accounts payable, receivable, rates, treasury services, and compliance
• Provide financial insights and strategic advice to support budget repair and forward-looking financial planning
• Support the implementation of a new finance system (transitioning from Practical to CIVICA Cloud) and work closely with project manager
• Ensure compliance with Local Government legislation, reporting requirements, and accounting standards
• Lead and mentor a small finance team, ensuring strong collaboration and performance.
