The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Finance and Administration Officer with strong team supervision skills and a solid background in government finance to join a dedicated team in Townsville. This is a rewarding opportunity to support critical operations that help improve outcomes for young people.
This initial 3-month temporary appointment may be extended, subject to performance and operational requirements.
About The Role
The Finance and Administration Officer plays a vital role in the development, implementation, and evaluation of efficient administrative and financial systems. The position also assists in the supervision, training, and development of the administrative and support staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Support financial operations including payment of accounts, banking, monthly reconciliations, and tracking.
- Administer trust accounts for detained young people and manage petty cash including reimbursement and reconciliation.
- Coordinate procurement processes in line with purchasing requirements, including preparing purchase orders.
- Maintain and update the asset register and coordinate stocktakes.
- Arrange and monitor travel for staff, visitors, and young people.
- Prepare reports, correspondence, and maintain the accountable documents register.
- Provide training and day-to-day supervision to administration and support staff.
- Assist with budgeting and financial analysis as required.
- Demonstrate or develop strong cultural capability, supporting programs aligned with the Human Rights Act 2019 and community partnerships.
About You
- Experience working in government financial and administrative systems
- A valid Blue Card (or ability to reinstate an expired one) prior to commencement
- Ability to pass criminal history screening and other pre-employment checks (serious disciplinary history disclosure, reference and qualification checks, eligibility to work in Australia)
- Willingness to disclose any pre-existing medical conditions or injuries relevant to the role under section 571B of the Workers’ Compensation and Rehabilitation Act 2003
- Australian citizenship, permanent residency, or a valid working visa
- Proven ability to supervise and train staff in a structured operational environment
- High-level written communication skills and attention to detail
- A collaborative, culturally sensitive, and professional approach to working with diverse teams
