An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Payroll Officer to join a supportive and community-focused Government team in southern suburbs of Brisbane. About the Role
As the Senior Payroll Officer, you will be responsible for delivering accurate, timely, and compliant end-to-end payroll services for a large and diverse workforce. You will play a key role in leading payroll operations, supporting and mentoring team members, and working closely with HR, Finance, and operational leaders to ensure seamless service delivery.
This role offers the opportunity to contribute to continuous improvement projects, support system upgrades, and partner with other departments to strengthen payroll compliance and reporting processes.
Key Responsibilities
- End-to-end payroll processing for a medium- volume workforce in line with Fair Work, ATO, and superannuation requirements.
- Prepare, reconcile, and distribute payroll payments and reporting on a fortnightly cycle.
- Manage complex payroll queries and provide high-quality customer service to staff.
- Interpret and apply enterprise agreements, awards, and government policies.
- Oversee payroll system administration, including Time & Attendance platforms.
- Support month-end and year-end payroll reconciliations and audits.
- Coach and mentor payroll officers, promoting accuracy and compliance.
- Contribute to payroll system enhancements and process improvement initiatives.
Skills & Experience
- Demonstrated experience in a Senior Payroll Officer or Payroll Officer role within a medium-volume environment.
- Strong working knowledge of payroll legislation, taxation, and superannuation requirements.
- Proven ability to interpret enterprise agreements and apply them accurately.
- Experience with payroll systems (Technology One or similar desirable) and Time & Attendance systems.
- High attention to detail, accuracy, and excellent numeracy skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a customer-focused approach.
- Ability to work to strict deadlines and manage competing priorities.
