About the Organisation

Our client is located in the heart of the Gulf of Carpentaria, covering approximately 65,000 square kilometres with a population of around 2,000. The Shire includes the communities of Normanton and Karumba and offers a unique lifestyle with access to modern infrastructure, schools, medical services, and recreational facilities. Council employs around 100 staff and manages a significant capital works program, including flood recovery projects.

About the Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Workplace Health & Safety Coordinator for a 6-week temporary assignment based in Carpentaria Shire. Reporting to the Manager of Human Resources, you will lead the implementation and compliance of WHS systems across Council operations. This hands-on role involves site visits, audits, training coordination, incident investigations, and WHS reporting.

You will also support the WHS Officer, re-establish the WHS Committee, and ensure Council meets its obligations under the Work Health and Safety Act and Regulations.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A Diploma or higher qualification in Workplace Health & Safety.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar WHS role.
  • Strong knowledge of WHS legislation and digital WHS systems.
  • Excellent communication and reporting skills.
  • A current C Class Driver’s Licence and Construction Industry Induction (White Card).
  • Experience working in remote or regional areas is highly desirable.
