POSITION

Full-time Cook position available in Cairns, QLD 4870.


SKILLS:

The role requires you to hold at least a relevant AQF (or equivalent) Cert IV and 1 year of relevant fulltime work experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

As a Cook, you’ll play a key role in preparing, cooking and presenting a variety of dishes for functions, events and large-scale catering services. You’ll assist in planning menus and estimating ingredient quantities, ensuring all meals are prepared efficiently, consistently and to a high standard. A major part of your role involves setting up mise-en-place for event service, maintaining a clean and organised workspace and ensuring food is safely packed, transported and presented at different venues. You’ll also be responsible for receiving and checking deliveries, monitoring food quality and freshness and adhering to all food safety and hygiene requirements. This position suits someone who thrives in a busy catering environment, works well under pressure and takes pride in producing quality food as part of a collaborative and professional team.

TASKS:

  • Prepare, cook, and present a wide range of dishes for weddings, private dinners, parties, conferences, corporate events, and offsite catering services
  • Assist in planning and developing menus for various functions, including estimating ingredient requirements, portion sizes, and supporting with menu costings when required
  • Set up and maintain mise-en-place to ensure efficient preparation and smooth service for different catering events
  • Cook dishes using appropriate methods such as grilling, roasting, frying, steaming, and baking, ensuring quality, flavour, and presentation standards are consistently met
  • Prepare food for both plated and buffet-style service, including portioning, packaging, and labelling for offsite catering, lunch packs, and platters
  • Coordinate the preparation and timely delivery of meals for corporate clients, charter services, and film or documentary crews
  • Monitor the freshness and quality of all ingredients and finished dishes, ensuring stock rotation and minimal wastage
  • Receive and inspect food deliveries, verifying product quality, quantity, and compliance with temperature control and food safety requirements
  • Assist with inventory management, including maintaining stock levels and notifying supervisors of shortages or ordering needs
  • Operate kitchen equipment such as ovens, grills, fryers, mixers, and food processors safely and efficiently, reporting any maintenance issues promptly
  • Maintain a clean, hygienic, and well-organised workspace in compliance with health and safety standards
  • Follow all food safety, hygiene, and occupational health procedures, including allergen management, safe food handling, and temperature monitoring
  • Collaborate with chefs, kitchen assistants, and service staff to ensure efficient coordination between food preparation, packing, and event delivery
  • Support and guide junior kitchen staff and apprentices during service, fostering teamwork and a professional kitchen culture
  • Contribute to menu development and continuous improvement by providing feedback on dishes, workflow, and event operations

SALARY:

Annual salary of $75,000 - $85,000 based on experience.
