About the Organisation

Our client is a not-for-profit organisation that operates a network of retail stores, fuel outlets, and other enterprises throughout some of the most remote and unique communities in Queensland. Their mission is to strengthen communities through reliable, ethical and sustainable service delivery, ensuring essential goods and employment opportunities remain accessible across the Cape, Torres Strait, and Gulf regions.

Working closely with People and Workplace Culture, Payroll and Finance teams, you will also mentor and support the Payroll Manager while contributing to strategic process improvement initiatives that enhance our clients reputation as an employer of choice.

About You

You’re an experienced payroll professional with deep expertise in compliance, process management and legislative interpretation. You thrive in complex environments and have a strong understanding of modern awards, enterprise agreements and end-to-end payroll operations.

You will bring:

  • Extensive knowledge and interpretation of multiple awards (e.g. General Retail Industry Award 2020, Clerks Private Sector Award 2010).
  • Proven experience managing payroll compliance within medium-to-large organisations.
  • Strong understanding of NES, tax and superannuation legislation.
  • Experience conducting payroll audits, risk assessments and remediation processes.
  • Advanced skills in payroll software (e.g. Pronto, MYOB, Xero) and time and attendance systems (e.g. Humanforce).
  • Strong analytical and reporting skills using tools such as Power BI.
  • Excellent communication, leadership and mentoring abilities.

Highly Desirable:

  • Relevant qualification in Payroll Services, Accounting or Business Administration
  • Previous experience in the retail or public sector.
