POSITION

A full-time Electronic Instrument Trades Worker (General) is available in Cairns, 4870 QLD.

QUALIFICATION

The role requires you to hold at least:

  • A relevant AQF (or equivalent) Certificate III including at least two years of on-the-job training, or
  • AQF (or equivalent) Certificate IV
  • Alternatively, at least three years of relevant experience may substitute for the formal qualification listed above.

EXPERIENCE

In addition to the relevant qualification, at least two years of relevant work experience is required.

RESPONSIBILITIES

As an Electronic Instrument Trades Worker, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, modification and repair of electronic instruments and control systems used in industrial and commercial environments. You will examine, diagnose and rectify faults in a range of precision instruments and equipment, performing adjustments and verifications to ensure they operate accurately, safely and in compliance with Australian Standards. While calibration tasks form part of your broader responsibility to maintain equipment within specified tolerances, your role also includes wider technical duties such as fault diagnosis, system maintenance and commissioning of instruments and control systems.

DUTIES

  • Install, maintain, modify and repair electronic instruments, control systems and related equipment.
  • Examine and test instruments and control systems to diagnose faults, irregularities or performance issues.
  • Adjust, repair, and replace defective parts, wiring and components.
  • Reassemble and test instruments to confirm correct operation and accuracy.
  • Carry out functional tests and verifications of measuring and monitoring equipment to ensure compliance with Australian Standards and client specifications.
  • Assist in documenting test results and maintenance activities in accordance with company procedures and quality systems.
  • Apply knowledge of electrical, electronic, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic principles to diagnose and maintain control systems.
  • Provide technical support and advice to clients on the correct operation and maintenance of electronic instruments and systems.
  • Adhere to all workplace health and safety, quality assurance and regulatory requirements.

REQUIRED SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES

  • Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills in complex electronic and control systems.
  • Technical competence in maintaining and repairing electronic instruments and related equipment.
  • Ability to interpret and work from wiring diagrams, schematics and technical manuals.
  • Understanding of instrumentation principles including signal transmission, measurement and control.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail in performing adjustments and verifications.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills to liaise with engineers, supervisors and clients.
  • Ability to work independently and manage workloads efficiently.
  • Proficiency in using test and measurement tools such as oscilloscopes, multimeters and signal generators.

SALARY

The salary offered will be $70,000 to $80,000 per annum based on your experience.
