Role Overview
The Lead/Senior Environmental Health Officer oversees environmental health services across the Isaac Region, leading a team to deliver programs in food safety, public health, and environmental compliance. Based in Moranbah, the role focuses on mentoring staff, investigating complex issues, and promoting safe, sustainable, and healthy communities through education, innovation, and effective regulation.

- Fantastic salary $103,919.64 - $113,191.75 (negotiable based on experience)

Responsibilities:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Environmental Health Officers to achieve high performance and professional growth.
- Oversee compliance with key legislation including the Food Act 2006, Public Health Act 2005, and Environmental Protection Act 1994.
- Deliver and manage proactive environmental health programs focused on food safety, public health, and environmental protection.
- Conduct inspections, audits, and investigations into environmental and public health matters.
- Provide expert advice and reports to Council and stakeholders on compliance, education, and enforcement matters.
- Engage with the community and business sector to promote awareness and positive health outcomes.
- Represent Council in court proceedings when required and lead the implementation of improved environmental health procedures and initiatives.
- Collaborate with State and Federal agencies, neighbouring councils, and internal teams to drive consistent and effective environmental outcomes.
What We're Looking For:
- A tertiary-qualified Environmental Health professional (eligible for Environmental Health Australia membership) who's passionate about community wellbeing and environmental sustainability.
- A confident and supportive leader with demonstrated experience coaching and guiding Environmental Health Officers or compliance teams within Local Government or a similar environment.
- Strong understanding of environmental and public health legislation, including food safety, waste, and environmental protection frameworks, with the ability to interpret and apply them effectively.
- Skilled investigator with experience managing complex cases, gathering evidence, and making sound compliance decisions based on public interest and risk.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, capable of simplifying complex information and building productive relationships with residents, business operators, and government stakeholders.
- Proven ability to balance education and enforcement approaches using engagement and awareness to achieve long-term community outcomes.
- Excellent report writing and analytical abilities, with a high standard of attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.
- A proactive and adaptable professional who values collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Current C Class Driver's Licence and willingness to travel within the Isaac Region as required.
