POSITION

Full time position available for a Chef in Mission Beach, QLD 4852.

SKILLS

The role requires you to hold at least a relevant AQF (or equivalent) diploma and 1 year of relevant work experience. At least three years of relevant work experience may substitute for the formal qualification listed above.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Chef is responsible for overseeing all kitchen operations, including directing the food preparation team, coordinating daily cooking activities, and ensuring that every dish leaving the kitchen meets our standards. This role involves planning and selecting menu items, adapting recipes to accommodate guests’ preferences or dietary needs, and maintaining consistent quality across all meals. In addition to overseeing the workflow, the Chef may participate in prep tasks, such as organising ingredients, portioning items, or demonstrating techniques but will primarily focus on preparing specialty dishes. The Chef also plays a key role in menu development, selecting ingredients and crafting dishes based on seasonal availability and current culinary trends, creating dishes that inspire guests to return.

POSITION DUTIES

  • Knows proper handling of food, equipment and utensils.
  • Supervises and participates in the meal service.
  • Cooks guests' orders according to their preferences.
  • Employs food safety best practices and ensures all kitchen staff follow these standards.
  • Checks all food items before being served to the guests.
  • Acts with appropriate caution in a dangerous environment where there are knives and high temperature surfaces.
  • Selects choice ingredients that will give dishes the best flavour.
  • Plans menus and experiments to develop new specialties that attract diners.
  • Leads the kitchen by coaching other team members for optimal performance.
  • Trains other kitchen staff.
  • Determines how much food to order and maintains an appropriate supply.
  • Keeps up with trends in cooking and the restaurant business to ensure guests have a positive experience.
  • Works quickly and accurately during busy periods, such as weekends and evenings.
  • Takes direction and collaborates with the restaurant's administrative team.
  • Sets up, cleans and organises workstations.
  • Prepares ingredients for the shift, such as washing vegetables, chopping, and seasoning meat.
  • Prepares ovens, utensils, and grills for shifts.
  • Takes orders from wait staff or computerised systems.
  • Cooks orders according to food health and safety standards.
  • Recommends ideas for specials or seasonal dishes.
  • Handles multiple food orders at one time.

SALARY

$75,000 - $85,000 per annum based on experience.
