POSITION

Full time position is available for a Metal Machinist in Minto, NSW 2566.

SKILLS

At least an AQF Certificate III including at least two years of on the job training or a Certificate IV. In addition to the qualification at least one year of relevant work experience is required. At least three years of relevant experience may substitute for the formal qualifications listed above.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Metal Machinist is responsible for fitting and assembling fabricated metal components into finished products, ensuring accuracy and quality throughout the process. The role involves setting up and adjusting machining tools, production equipment, and specialised machinery, including textile machines, as well as operating a range of machine tools to shape and form metal stock and castings in accordance with drawings and specifications.

DUTIES

  • Interpret and analyse engineering drawings, specifications, and job instructions to determine appropriate materials, machining methods, operational sequences and machine settings.
  • Set up, program (where required), adjust, and operate conventional and CNC lathes, as well as other machine tools, to shape and form metal stock and castings to fine tolerances.
  • Select, install, and align cutting, shaping, and forming tools, dies, guides, stops and other controls on machining equipment and presses.
  • Manufacture, fit, and assemble fabricated metal components, subassemblies and assemblies to produce machinery and equipment.
  • Inspect machined and assembled components for accuracy, clearance and fit using precision measuring instruments such as micrometres, verniers, and gauges.
  • Perform machining operations including pressing, cutting, grinding, boring, drilling, threading, and bending of metal components.
  • Cut, bend, thread, and install hydraulic and pneumatic piping and lines in accordance with specifications and safety requirements.
  • Prepare and adjust pattern mechanisms and control systems for machinery, including textile-related equipment used in spinning, weaving, knitting, sewing, and tufting operations where applicable.
  • Diagnose mechanical faults and carry out routine servicing, preventative maintenance, overhauls and repairs on machinery, mechanical components and fluid power systems.
  • Assist with the installation, erection, commissioning and testing of machines and equipment on-site as required.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and efficient work environment in compliance with workplace health and safety standards.

SALARY

$70,000 - $80,000 per annum based on experience.
