POSITION

We have a full-time position for a Cook available in Cairns, QLD 4870

SKILLS

The role requires you to have:

  • At least a relevant AQF (or equivalent) Cert IV
  • 1 year of relevant work experience

RESPONSIBILITIES

As a Cook, you will be responsible for preparing and cooking hot pot ingredients and soup bases while ensuring strict compliance with food safety, hygiene, and WHS standards. You will maintain a clean, organised kitchen environment, monitor ingredient quality, assist with stock control and waste reduction, and work efficiently during busy service periods. The role requires strong teamwork with kitchen and front-of-house staff, a customer-focused attitude, and the ability to perform well under pressure.

TASKS

The position will require you to perform the following tasks:

  • Prepare, cook, and present a variety of hot pot ingredients, including sliced meats, seafood, vegetables, and noodles, in accordance with restaurant recipes and dietary requirements.
  • Prepare and cook a range of hot pot soup bases (e.g. traditional, spicy, mushroom), ensuring consistent flavour, quality, and food safety.
  • Portion, marinate, and store ingredients correctly to maintain freshness and minimise waste.
  • Prepare herbs, sauces, condiments, and side dishes for buffet service.
  • Follow standard recipes, preparation methods, and portion sizes to ensure consistency and quality.
  • Monitor cooking times and temperatures to ensure food is cooked safely and to the required standard.
  • Maintain a hygienic and organised kitchen, including workstations, utensils, and cooking equipment.
  • Work efficiently during peak service periods while maintaining high standards of food quality and presentation.
  • Monitor stock levels, rotate ingredients, and report low stock or quality issues to the Restaurant Supervisor.
  • Safely operate and maintain kitchen equipment, including slicers, stock pots, burners, and refrigeration units.
  • Assist with receiving, checking, and storing deliveries to ensure quality, accuracy, and correct storage procedures.
  • Follow workplace health and safety (WHS) policies and procedures to prevent accidents and injuries.

ADDITIONAL ATTRIBUTES

  • Strong understanding of hot pot preparation methods, including soup bases, ingredient slicing, portioning, and temperature control.
  • Knowledge of handling raw meats, seafood, and fresh produce safely to prevent cross contamination.
  • Ability to maintain consistency in broth flavour, ingredient quality, and presentation across service periods.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-turnover kitchen during peak dining hours.
  • Strong attention to cleanliness and organisation, particularly in shared prep and cold storage areas.
  • Ability to follow standard operating procedures, recipes, and preparation schedules.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills when coordinating with kitchen and front-of-house staff.

SALARY

The salary offered will be $65,000 to $75,000 per annum negotiated based on your

experience.
