POSITION

Full time position is available for a Cook in Cairns, QLD 4870.

SKILL

The role requires at least a Certificate III and 2 years of relevant work experience OR a Certificate IV and at least 1 year of relevant work experience OR at least three years of relevant experience.

RESPONSIBITLIES


The Cook is responsible for preparing and cooking food as per the menu to provide an excellent guest experience. The cook is responsible for kitchen operations, creating and updating menus, ordering and managing inventory, managing budgets, ensuring food quality and safety, and maintaining cleanliness and organisation in the kitchen.

DUTIES

  • Plan, prepare and cook meals in line with agreed menus, recipes, and budget requirements.
  • Liaise with the purser and guests to meet dietary requirements and preferences, including vegetarian and vegan options.
  • Demonstrate a high level of knife techniques such as chopping cutting, slicing, dicing and trimming, efficient skills in peeling, beating, whipping, rinsing and straining duties.
  • Prepare salads, garnishes, coating and batters according to daily requirement.
  • Prepare dishes using safe and efficient kitchen practices, ensuring consistency in quality, taste and presentation.
  • Conduct checks on ingredients for freshness, quality and correct storage prior to use and service.
  • Ensure all food is prepared and served at safe and appropriate temperatures in accordance with food safety standards.
  • Manage food stock levels through accurate ordering, receiving, rotation and inventory control.
  • Receive and unpack supplier deliveries, verifying quantities, condition, and use-by dates against delivery documentation.
  • Ensure all food is correctly labelled, dated, and stored to minimise waste and maintain hygiene standards.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organised galley, including completion of cleaning schedules and end-of-day sanitation.
  • Monitor and maintain cleanliness of all food preparation, storage and service areas.
  • Comply with all Workplace Health & Safety, food safety and company policies and procedures.
  • Identify, rectify where possible, and report hazards, accidents and incidents in a timely manner.

SALARY

$65,000 - $75,000 per annum based on experience.
