Manager Governance – Regional Queensland Council (Hybrid / FIFO)


The Opportunity

A Regional Queensland Council is seeking an experienced Manager Governance to lead governance, compliance, and corporate administration functions across the organisation.

Reporting to the Director of Corporate and Communications, this role plays a critical part in ensuring Council meets its legislative obligations, maintains strong governance frameworks, and supports transparent decision-making. The Director is based in Cairns and attends the community on a structured schedule, with this role operating on a similar arrangement — approximately one week on-site per month.

This is an excellent opportunity for a governance professional seeking a senior Local Government role with a balanced hybrid arrangement while contributing to meaningful community outcomes.

About the Role

You will lead Council’s governance and compliance functions, ensuring adherence to legislation, policy, and best-practice frameworks.

Key responsibilities include:
• Managing governance frameworks, policies, and procedures
• Supporting Council and executive decision-making processes
• Overseeing compliance with Local Government legislation and regulations
• Managing statutory reporting and corporate documentation
• Coordinating Council meetings, agendas, and governance processes
• Supporting risk management and organisational integrity initiatives
• Providing high-level governance advice to leadership
• Ensuring transparency, accountability, and best practice

About You

You are an experienced governance or corporate professional with strong knowledge of Local Government processes and legislative requirements.

You will bring:
• Demonstrated experience in governance, compliance, or corporate services
• Strong understanding of Local Government legislation and governance frameworks
• Ability to manage complex governance requirements
• Excellent written communication and report-writing skills
• High level of integrity, discretion, and professionalism
• Strong organisational and stakeholder engagement skills

Desirable:
• Previous Local Government experience
• Qualifications in Governance, Law, Public Administration, or related discipline
