The Opportunity

Based in the Cairns Support Office, the Management Accountant is the senior role within the Financial Services Department, providing strategic financial advice, analysis and leadership. Reporting to the Manager of Financial Services, you will oversee key financial processes, coordinate reporting and budgeting cycles, and drive system and process improvements.

This role partners with geographically dispersed teams across Cape York Peninsula, the Gulf of Carpentaria and the Torres Strait, ensuring robust financial governance and supporting organisational performance. Responsibilities include monthly and annual reporting, budget coordination, financial analysis, compliance oversight, and mentoring finance staff.

About You

You are a qualified accounting professional who combines technical expertise with strategic insight and leadership capability. You thrive in complex environments and are motivated by work that delivers meaningful community outcomes.

To succeed, you will bring:

  • Degree in Accounting, Commerce, Business or related field.
  • CPA or CA qualification (or eligibility).
  • Strong experience in management accounting within large or complex organisations.
  • Advanced financial analysis, reporting and budgeting skills.
  • Knowledge of accounting standards and financial compliance requirements.
  • Ability to influence stakeholders and lead improvement initiatives.
  • Experience supervising or mentoring finance teams.

Experience in the retail or public sector environment will be highly regarded.
