This is a rare opportunity for a skilled Plumber to take on a key role supporting the essential water and wastewater infrastructure that keeps this remote community running.

Role Overview

Diamantina Shire Council is seeking an experienced Plumber to join the Infrastructure Services team based in Bedourie.

This role is responsible for installing, maintaining and repairing Council’s water, wastewater and stormwater systems, ensuring reliable services are delivered across the community. The position works closely with the Town Services and Facilities Manager and plays an important role in maintaining essential infrastructure across the Shire.

The successful candidate will bring strong trade skills, the ability to work independently in a remote environment, and a commitment to providing high quality services to the community.

Job Offering

  • Salary: $100,000 – $120,000 plus superannuation (dependent on skills and experience)
  • 3-year employment contract
  • Council vehicle provided for work purposes
  • Subsidised Accommodation available - Accommodation options range from 1-bedroom units to 3-bedroom houses depending on household requirements
  • Approx. $150 per week rent (partly furnished including washing machine, beds and fridge)
  • Relocation assistance up to $7,000 may be considered depending on salary package and location of relocation

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake installation, maintenance and repair of water, wastewater and stormwater infrastructure across the Shire.
  • Perform testing, inspections and monitoring of water and sewer systems in line with regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain and repair reticulation networks and associated infrastructure to ensure reliable service delivery.
  • Assist with the operation and maintenance of the town’s wastewater systems.
  • Provide technical advice relating to plumbing and drainage works to internal teams and community members.
  • Maintain plant, tools and equipment in accordance with Council procedures.
  • Assist with water quality testing to meet regulatory and health standards.
  • Prepare quotes for private plumbing works when required.
  • Ensure work complies with relevant legislation, building codes and safety standards.
  • Participate in on-call or after-hours work when operationally required.
  • Contribute to a safe work environment and represent Council professionally within the community.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Trade qualification in Plumbing and Drainage
  • Licensed Plumber (Plumber and Drainer licence highly regarded)
  • Experience working on water, wastewater and stormwater systems
  • Current C Class Driver’s Licence
  • Construction Industry White Card (or willingness to obtain)
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment and manage multiple tasks
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

Desirable:

  • HR Driver’s Licence
  • Confined Space Entry certification
  • Backflow prevention, restricted electrical or other relevant trade certifications
  • Experience working within Local Government infrastructure operations
