Estimator – Commercial & Residential Construction - Cairns

The Opportunity

A well-established construction business is seeking an experienced Estimator to support the delivery of commercial and residential projects across Far North Queensland.

This is a practical, hands-on role suited to someone with real construction experience in Australia, not a purely office-based or consultancy background. You will be responsible for preparing accurate estimates, managing tenders, and supporting project teams with pricing, budgets and cost control.

This role is based in Cairns and requires someone either local or able to relocate within a short timeframe.

About the Role

You will be responsible for end-to-end estimating and tendering across a range of construction projects.

Key responsibilities include:
• Analysing drawings, specifications and project documentation
• Preparing detailed cost estimates and quantity take-offs
• Leading tender preparation and submission processes
• Liaising with subcontractors, suppliers and consultants
• Evaluating subcontractor quotes and conducting tender analysis
• Identifying project risks and developing cost contingencies
• Supporting project teams with budgets and cost planning
• Maintaining cost databases and pricing schedules
• Assisting with procurement and contract documentation
• Providing clear reporting to internal and external stakeholders

About You

You are an Estimator with solid, hands-on construction experience and a strong understanding of how projects are delivered on-site.

You will bring:
• Proven experience in an Estimator role within construction
• Background in building homes, units and/or renovations in Australia
• Understanding of commercial construction projects
• Experience working with Australian construction contracts (AS2124, AS4000, AS4300)
• Ability to work across remote or regional projects (logistics, transport, scheduling)
• Strong ability to interpret drawings, BOQs and specifications
• High attention to detail and commercial awareness

Important:
• Must have practical construction experience (not purely consultancy)
• Must be based in Cairns or able to relocate within 2 weeks
• On-site role – no work from home arrangements
