Senior Mechanic – Local Government (Remote Queensland)
The Opportunity
A Remote Queensland Local Government is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanic to lead the delivery of maintenance and repair services across its fleet, plant and equipment.
This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for supervising mechanics and ensuring all vehicles, heavy plant and equipment are maintained safely, efficiently and to operational standards. You will play a key role in keeping essential services running across the community while supporting and mentoring workshop staff.
The position requires someone comfortable working in a remote environment and contributing to both workshop operations and on-site repairs when required.

About the Role
You will oversee workshop operations and ensure the reliability of Council’s fleet and plant.
Key responsibilities include:
• Supervising mechanics and coordinating daily workshop operations
• Maintaining and repairing Council fleet, plant and equipment
• Conducting diagnostics, fault finding and breakdown repairs
• Ensuring all servicing and maintenance schedules are met
• Managing workshop safety, compliance and documentation
• Supporting procurement of parts and managing inventory
• Providing technical guidance and mentoring to staff
• Conducting both workshop and field-based repairs as required
This role plays a critical part in ensuring all equipment remains safe, operational and cost-effective for Council use.
About You
You are a highly skilled mechanic with leadership experience and the ability to operate effectively in remote conditions.
You will bring:
• Trade qualification in Automotive, Diesel or Heavy Vehicle Mechanics
• Experience working in Local Government or remote communities
• Strong experience maintaining fleet, plant and equipment
• Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience
• Strong diagnostic and fault-finding capability
• Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities
• Commitment to safety and compliance standards
• Current Driver’s Licence
