POSITION
We have a full-time position available for a Snorkelling Instructor in Cairns, QLD 4870.
SKILLS
The role requires you to hold at least a relevant AQF Cert IV and at least 1 year of relevant work experience OR at least three years of relevant employment experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES
As the Snorkelling Instructor you will be responsible for guiding participants on safe and enjoyable snorkelling experiences on the Great Barrier Reef. This includes taking participants on supervised snorkelling tours across reef sites, helping them build confidence and improve key skills such as breathing control, finning and surface awareness in open water conditions. You will assess participant ability, provide clear instruction on equipment use and deliver safety and environmental briefings on ocean-specific factors such as currents, tides, weather, and marine life. You will be responsible for actively supervising participants in the water, offering guidance and assistance to maintain safety and enjoyment.
DUTIES
- Guide individuals and groups on supervised snorkelling experiences on the Great Barrier Reef, ensuring safety and enjoyment at all times.
- Deliver snorkelling instruction to participants of varying skill levels, supporting the development of confidence and essential open-water skills such as breathing control and finning techniques.
- Assess participant ability in ocean conditions and provide tailored guidance to improve comfort, awareness, and overall snorkelling capability.
- Conduct pre-activity briefings covering equipment use, water safety, environmental awareness, and ocean-specific risks such as currents, tides, weather, and marine life.
- Coordinate daily snorkelling operations, ensuring safe environmental conditions, appropriate supervision ratios, and the implementation of comprehensive safety procedures including risk assessments, emergency response readiness, and adherence to all relevant regulations and safety standards.
- Monitor participants closely during in-water sessions, providing encouragement, guidance, and immediate assistance where required.
- Promote marine conservation and responsible interaction with reef ecosystems and wildlife.
- Maintain accurate records of participant attendance, incident reports, and safety logs.
- Prepare, check, and maintain snorkelling equipment (masks, fins, snorkels, flotation devices) to ensure cleanliness, functionality, and safety.
- Assist participants with selecting, fitting, and correctly using snorkelling gear suited to their needs and comfort.
- Perform routine inspections and basic maintenance of rental equipment to ensure ongoing safety and usability.

SALARY
The salary offered will be $65,000 - $75,000 per annum negotiated based on your experience.
