Accountant – Regional Queensland Council
The Opportunity
A Regional Queensland Council is seeking an experienced Accountant to join its Finance Team and support the delivery of high-quality financial management and reporting services.
Reporting to the Manager Finance, this role is responsible for management accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, grant administration and statutory compliance. Working closely with budget managers and operational teams, you will provide financial insights that support informed decision-making and strong organisational performance.

About the Role
You will provide financial management and reporting support across a broad range of Council operations.
Key responsibilities include:
• Preparing monthly management reports and financial performance analysis
• Supporting budget development, reviews and forecasting activities
• Coordinating cash flow management, investments and bank reconciliations
• Managing grant funding administration, acquittals and reporting
• Preparing statutory returns including BAS, FBT and other compliance reporting
• Assisting with annual financial statements and audit processes
• Supporting month-end and end-of-year financial procedures
• Providing financial advice and support to managers across the organisation
• Monitoring financial performance and identifying improvement opportunities
• Building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
About You
You are a motivated accounting professional with strong financial reporting skills and the ability to communicate financial information clearly to a range of stakeholders.
You will bring:
• Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Commerce, Business or a related discipline
• Demonstrated experience in financial reporting and management accounting
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and organisational skills
• Experience preparing budgets, forecasts and financial reports
• Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Current Queensland C Class Driver Licence
Desirable:
• CPA or CA qualification (or working towards)
• Local Government or public sector experience
• Experience with grant management and compliance reporting
