Local Laws Compliance Officer (2 Positions) - Bundaberg Regional Council - Located in Bundaberg

Role Overview

As a Local Laws Compliance Officer, you will play a key role in supporting the safety, cleanliness and overall liveability of the Bundaberg Region. This position involves enforcing Council Local Laws and relevant State legislation through inspections, investigations, monitoring activities and community engagement, including responsibilities related to animal management.

This role offers a dynamic mix of outdoor and office-based work, requiring strong problem-solving skills and the ability to interact with a diverse range of people. It is well suited to individuals who enjoy variety in their work and are motivated to contribute positively to their community.

Job Offering

  • Salary range: $81,844 - $86,861 per annum
  • 12% superannuation
  • Overtime with penalty rates
  • 72.5 hours - 9 day fortnight (1 RDO)
  • 4 weeks annual leave with 17.5% leave loading
  • On call roster with minimum call out hours

Key Responsibilities

  • Enforce relevant legislation and Council Local Laws relating to areas such as animal control, parking, abandoned vehicles, illegal camping, illegal dumping and property maintenance
  • Carry out routine patrols and inspections to identify non-compliance issues
  • Prepare and issue notices, warnings and infringement penalties where required
  • Gather and document evidence, ensuring accurate record keeping to support enforcement actions
  • Respond to public enquiries, complaints and service requests in a professional manner
  • Educate and inform the community about regulatory requirements and compliance expectations
  • Work collaboratively with government agencies, stakeholders and community groups to address compliance matters
  • Identify and report hazards or maintenance concerns affecting public safety or regulated areas
  • Participate in rostered after-hours, weekend and on-call duties as required
  • Represent Council positively through professional behaviour and effective customer service

Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience in regulatory enforcement and investigations within a Local Government or similar environment
  • Practical knowledge of animal management practices, including handling, care and hygiene standards
  • Understanding of compliance areas such as parking, illegal camping, abandoned vehicles, signage and property maintenance
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to manage conflict and engage respectfully with the public
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office, and the ability to learn specialised compliance systems
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team
  • Physical capability to perform duties that may involve manual handling
  • Flexibility to work outside standard hours in line with roster requirements
  • Current C Class Driver’s Licence
