About the Organisation

Our client is a dynamic local government organisation committed to delivering quality services and supporting the communities throughout one of the most pristine regions of far north Queensland. As a regional Council, it offers the opportunity to make a genuine difference while working across a broad and diverse range of HR priorities.

About the Opportunity

Our client is seeking an experienced Human Resources Advisor to join its People, Performance and Safety team on a temporary basis for approximately six (6) months.

This position has been created to provide additional HR capacity during a period of significant short staffing within the team. Reporting directly to the Executive Manager People, Performance and Safety, you will work closely with the broader team and provide practical support across the full HR lifecycle.

This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced HR professional who enjoys variety, can quickly understand organisational priorities and is comfortable rolling up their sleeves and getting things done.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing employment contracts and related HR correspondence for current employees
    • Progressing key HR priority projects
    • Reviewing and delivering the employee induction program
    • Progressing implementation of the Onboarding process
    • Reviewing Position Descriptions and Contracts of Employment to ensure they remain current
    • Assisting with the development and rollout of a new performance review program
    • Providing general HR advice and support across the full employee lifecycle as required

About You

You will be an experienced HR professional with demonstrated experience working within Queensland local government and a strong understanding of the broader HR lifecycle.

To be successful, you will ideally have:

  • Previous experience in a Queensland local government HR environment
    • Broad HR experience across areas including employment contracts, onboarding, performance management, HR projects and employee lifecycle processes
    • The ability to work autonomously, prioritise competing demands and quickly adapt to changing requirements
    • A flexible, hands-on approach and the willingness to jump in and assist wherever required
    • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
    • The ability to work effectively as part of a small, collaborative HR team

Full-time availability is preferred; however, Council is open to considering part-time or reduced hours for the right candidate.

An immediate start would be highly desirable.

What’s On Offer

  • Approximately six (6) months' temporary engagement with the potential to make an immediate and meaningful contribution
    • Flexible working arrangements, including the opportunity to work remotely
    • Candidates based in North Queensland may be considered for a hybrid arrangement, with a couple of days per week or fortnight on site and the remainder working remotely
    • Fully remote arrangements may also be considered for the right candidate, with regular communication and participation in online meetings required
    • Council-provided laptop, VPN access and mobile phone to support remote working
    • The opportunity to work closely with the Executive Manager People, Performance and Safety and contribute to a range of important HR initiatives
    • A varied role where you can utilise your broad HR expertise and make a tangible difference
