POSITION

We have a full-time position available for a Chef in Cairns, QLD 4870.

SKILLS

The role requires you to hold at least a relevant AQF (or equivalent) diploma and at least one year of relevant work experience. At least three years of relevant work experience may substitute for the formal qualification listed above.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Chef is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the kitchen, supervising and coordinating kitchen staff, and ensuring the consistent preparation and presentation of high-quality meals. The role involves planning and developing seasonal menus, selecting and ordering quality ingredients, preparing and cooking a variety of dishes, maintaining food safety and hygiene standards, monitoring stock levels, and ensuring efficient kitchen operations. The Chef also accommodates dietary requirements and special requests, contributes to menu innovation, and maintains high standards of food quality and customer satisfaction.

POSITION DUTIES

  • Oversee the daily operation of the kitchen to ensure efficient and high-quality food service.
  • Prepare, cook and present a variety of dishes in accordance with recipes and quality standards.
  • Develop menus, create seasonal specials and contribute to the introduction of new menu items.
  • Select, inspect and order quality ingredients while monitoring stock levels and minimising food waste.
  • Supervise, train and mentor kitchen staff to maintain high performance and consistency.
  • Allocate duties and coordinate kitchen operations during service periods to ensure timely meal preparation.
  • Ensure all food is prepared, cooked and presented to a consistently high standard before service.
  • Prepare meals to accommodate customer preferences, dietary requirements and special requests where appropriate.
  • Maintain compliance with food safety, hygiene and sanitation standards in accordance with relevant legislation and workplace policies.
  • Monitor the safe operation of kitchen equipment and ensure safe work practices are followed at all times.
  • Prepare ingredients and organise workstations prior to service to ensure an efficient kitchen workflow.
  • Operate commercial kitchen equipment, including ovens, grills and other cooking appliances, safely and effectively.
  • Coordinate food preparation during busy service periods while maintaining quality, consistency and presentation standards.
  • Collaborate with management to support business operations, menu planning and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor inventory levels, receive and inspect deliveries, and maintain appropriate stock levels for kitchen operations.
  • Assist with maintaining a clean, organised and hygienic kitchen, including equipment and food preparation areas.
  • Keep informed of current culinary trends and techniques to enhance menu offerings and the overall dining experience.

SALARY

The salary offered will be $75,000 - $85,000 per annum negotiated based on your experience.
