POSITION

Full time position is available for a Diesel Motor Mechanic in Cairns, QLD 4870.

SKILLS

At least a Certificate III including at least two years of on-the-job training or a Certificate IV. At least 3 years of relevant experience may substitute for the formal qualification.

RESPONSIBILITIES

As the Diesel Motor Mechanic, you will be responsible for maintaining, testing and repairing diesel engines and the mechanical parts of trucks and other heavy vehicles.

TASKS

• Conduct thorough inspections to identify mechanical and electrical faults with engines and related components.
• Utilise diagnostic tools and equipment to accurately pinpoint issues and analyse diagnostic reports to determine the cause of problems, ensuring repairs are targeted and effective.
• Disassemble and remove engine assemblies, transmissions, steering systems, and other components, and inspect the parts for damage.
• Carry out scheduled maintenance tasks, including oil changes, lubrication, and engine tune-ups, to keep vehicles operating efficiently and reliably. Ensure that all maintenance work meets the required standards and regulations, including those related to emissions and pollution control.
• Reassemble engines and other mechanical components after repairs, ensuring that all parts are correctly aligned and secured.
• Conduct testing and adjust mechanical parts after repairs to ensure optimal performance.
• Use computers to diagnose and test vehicle parts
• May inspect vehicles and issue roadworthiness certificates or specify necessary repairs to meet roadworthiness standards
• May respond to vehicle breakdown calls

SALARY

The salary offered will be $40 - $45 an hour based on experience.
